Measurement Systems Analysis and Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (AG278)

SynopsisMeasurement system analysis (MSA) and gauge management are important in measuring and controlling variation in measurement systems. The process of conducting measurements and obtaining data has variation and therefore produces different levels of measurement error. MSA evaluates the process of conducting measurements so that the precision and integrity of the measured data used for an analysis can be checked.

This course will address the concept, principles, standards and techniques of MSA. Details of various factors affecting measurement systems and how the variation within a measurement system can be analysed will be presented. Determining the suitability of a chosen measurement system for a particular application and ways to improve measurement systems will also be discussed. The course will then expound the concept, procedure and analysis of the gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R) which is one of the most commonly used MSA techniques.

This is a course of continuing education designed specifically for people who are working on quality systems of product/process or calibration of machinery/instruments/equipments. At the completion of the subject, students should be able to:

    • understand the concepts of measurement systems
    • apply the MSA methodology for different measurement systems
    • perform and interpret GR&R
    • evaluate the MSA results and to decide on the follow up action
